Taking a Sick Day

Growing up my mom was the best at making us feel better when we were sick.  She would set us up on the living room couch or in her bedroom and we watched movies while she brought us gatorade and toast.  No matter what was wrong, she always made it better.

Then I became an adult, more specifically a mom, and discovered there’s no more calling in sick or taking the day off of school to get better.  As empathetic as Elijah can be, he doesn’t care all that much that mommy feels like a truck ran her over, he just wants to play football in the living room.  Daddy still has to go to work, and Noah still needs to be diapered and fed.

You can see why I was slightly stressed out last night sitting on the bathroom floor after puking up dinner and quite possibly lunch.  But then Mom happened to call, and happened to mention that if I still wasn’t feeling well in the morning she would take the day off to take care of me and the boys.

It wasn’t a hard decision – sick days don’t come easy to moms and dads.  I jumped at the opportunity and was able to take naps and drink gatorade and eat toast.  I felt just as taken care of as I did so many times so many years ago – good enough to now be sitting at my computer sifting through emails and writing on my blog.  Tender care is the best medicine.

Thanks Mom.
