Staycation Highlights 2 | Seussical the Musical

My favorite highlight of our staycation was taking the boys to see Seussical the Musical at the Lincolnshire Marriott theater.  We’ve taken them to see productions at the local high school, but nothing professional so we were absolutely pumped to go on our first theater adventure as a family.

Tickets were $15 per person which I thought was extremely reasonable, but we did have to purchase a ticket for Noah.  I was a little annoyed by that at first because I knew he wouldn’t really be watching the performance, but the additional seat came in VERY handy.  Noah’s a little big for his carseat, but it made a phenomenal booster and he actually stayed there for about half of the performance.

There are no strollers allowed in the theater but we were able to bring in our diaper bag, drinks and snacks for the boys and a few quiet toys for Noah.  The musical is only an hour long and is an amalgamation of classic Dr. Seuss books.  I was delighted to realize throughout the show that we had read 80% of the books referenced in the play.  It was whimsical, creative, fun and moved at a great pace for kiddies and adults alike.  Elijah was captivated the entire show.

If you’ve never been to the Lincolnshire Marriott, productions are performed in the round and the cast makes frequent use of audience aisles.  It’s an incredible experience.  There are minimal staging elements to accommodate continual movement of the actors and actresses.  The set-up gives the audience just enough to encourage imaginative participation throughout the duration of the show.  At the end of the performance the entire cast and crew remain available to field questions from the kids.  It was a little beyond the attention span my own kids, but I was fascinated.

I have a soft spot for the theater so to see Elijah excited about a musical was incredible.  If you have any desire to bring your small kids to see a show – this is the venue to do it at.  It’s accessible, kid-friendly and affordable.  This may become a yearly Trevino family tradition :).
