Meet Kate

I’m so excited to introduce you to Kate Conner, an on-line friend, insanely amazing blogger, new author, and our first guest in the Everyday Author series.
Meet Kate

Hi, I’m Kate.  I am married to a man named Dan, whom I believe in more than I have ever believed in another person.  We are the proud, smitten, amateur parents of the most beautiful creatures ever to toddle the face of the earth: five-year-old Madeline, her little brother, Sam “Dimples” Conner, and our newest addition, baby Henry.

I started writing in college, started writing a blog in 2010, and started writing books in 2013.

Here’s what you need to know about me:

  • My unplanned children outnumber my planned children 2:1.  I am excellent at running “Plan B” (and Plan C, and Plan D…).
  • I am learning braille.  When my daughter, Madeline, was 4 months old, we found out she had been born blind.  Raising her has been the greatest adventure of my life.
  • I want to learn all the languages.
  • I use bobby pins only slightly less than I use oxygen.
  • I believe in music and coffee and prose.
  • And in all the world, nothing has taken hold of me like Christ.

My blog

kateelizabethconner.com is where I write about stuff:  funny, serious, good, hard, embarrassing, inspiring stuff.   Muriel Rukeyser wrote “What would happen if one woman told the truth about her life?  The world would be split open.”  I believe this, and I have determined to write unafraid.  My blog is an open love letter to my twenties, motherhood, the world of vision loss, spirituality, and living life married to a college pastor in middle Georgia – less than a block away from Honey Boo Boo’s interview house.   Never a dull moment.

Books-in-progress

Last year I wrote a blog post that crashed my website; it received more than 2 million views in less than 2 weeks.  I got a lot of comments saying I was an enlightened angel; I also got  a lot of comments saying that I was a misogynist  &#%#*@@$!%  %@%!^ !#*&%.  So I’m doing what any sane person would do – I’m writing a book about it.  My post was called “10 Things I Want To Tell Teenage Girls.”  I wrote it at 2:00 am on a Saturday night, based on my 6-year stint in youth ministry.   My three books (one for parents/influencers of teens, one for teenage girls, and one for teenage boys, all due to be released summer of 2014 by Lifeway) are every bit as cheeky and opinionated as the blog post, and they are so. much. fun.  (You can read more about them here.)

Let’s talk tomorrow

I stepped into the publishing world upside down and backwards. I had an agent before I had a book.  An editor at a major publishing house emailed me instead of the other way around.  I have a real-life story about the power of a good blog, and am walking bravely into the world of traditional publishing – complete with agents, offers, contracts, and advances.  It is every writer’s dream.  I’m thrilled, stunned, and scared 100% of the time.

Welcome Kate!

Be sure to come back tomorrow – Kate’s talking traditional publishing and giving her best advice to writers. She’s amazing friends, you don’t want to miss it.

Kate’s books, Enough: Ten Things We Should Tell Teenage Girls, and 10 Things for Teen Girls are available now on Amazon.
