A Prayer For 2022
(Based on Psalm 51)
Clean out from me the debris
of a life I’m wont from living.
Shine light in all the corners
of this heart and make me new.
Sweep free the webs of bitterness
that dirty up the rooms, of a soul
that seeks to live by love.
Speak life to me. Speak truth.
Give grace where it is needed.
Bring discipline. Reprove.
Tear out the chains I’ve tried before
and found I can’t remove.
Grant peace when I’m unsettled.
Calm both rage and fear in me.
Throw out the discontent
that seeks to rob my joy in thee.
Please make this life Your own.
Swing wide those doors I’ve tried to close.
Take charge of every space and room –
breathe clarity by Your repose.
I offer what I have, though
it is not much I can give –
a broken spirit, humble heart,
this place for you to live.
Author’s Note
2021 was an incredibly difficult year for me personally. Coupled with a second year of pandemic living, I needed to reframe my expectations and surrender all my plans, and dreams, and hopes for 2022 to the Lord. This poem is my prayer of surrender for this year.
Lord Jesus, may it be so.
