[Inspiration] Music-Theme Birthday Party
Last year when Mike took an intro to music class Elijah had the opportunity to watch and learn about conductor Gustavo Dudamel alongside his daddy. Gustavo quickly became Elijah’s favorite person to watch on YouTube and has been introduced to a variety of orchestral music as a result. When we asked Elijah what type of birthday party he wanted, we weren’t shocked when he said “Gustavo Dudamel.” Elijah also LOVES the drums (he got a set for Christmas from Grandma and Papa Drachenberg) and a variety of music in general, so I attempted to merge the three concepts into the themed elements of his party.

Recipes and tutorials coming this week!
Since most of the kiddies were five and under (the youngest being a little over a year) our “games” consisted of singing, dancing, and playing instruments to music (much like some of the parent-and-tot classes you can attend at your local Park District). Fan favorite – beating on the tops of old wipes containers to the music of an old Stomp video (for the kids that is!).
Elijah had an awesome time celebrating with his friends and that of course made my day :).
If you’ve never heard of Gustavo Dudamel . . .
Gustavo Dudamel studied music through El Sistema – Venezuela’s voluntary sector music education program. 90% of the 250,000 children who attend these music schools across the country are from poor socio-economic backgrounds. Out of this program rose the world-renown prodigy we know today. At only 30 years old he concurrently serves as the music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, and the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela. If you’ve ever seen him conduct, you know what a colorful and charismatic personality he is to watch and why a certain three year old might at times try to emulate him.
