Favorite Children’s Books by Doreen Cronin
On our most recent visit to the library, I came across my new favorite children’s books written by Doreen Cronin and illustrated by Betsy Lewin.
Click, Clack, Moo: Cows that Type
Dooby Dooby Moo
Thump, Quack, Moo
Duck for President
Giggle, Giggle, Quack
All five books follow the farm-yard interactions between Farmer Brown and his animals – most notably the witty and ambitious Duck. Doreen uses onomatopoeia and a whole lot of hilarity to communicate a clever story that both kids and adults can enjoy. Topics woven throughout the books include democracy, unions, campaigning, the process of election, leadership, delegation, negotiation, and the use of disclaimer. Heady stuff for a children’s book I know, but that’s what happens when they are written by an attorney :).
Elijah and I are sold. We’ve read these books so many times the past week, Elijah can read the titles and finish most of the sentences. Apparently we aren’t the only ones. Cows that Type is a winner of the Caldecott Honor award, and along with Giggle, Giggle, Quack are both New York Times Best Sellers. These are seriously a must-read for you and the kiddos, and based on their popularity, you can probably pick them up at your library too :).
