Production Notes
Full production notes (including costume suggestions, music, technical needs, service order, staging and response notes) are included in the PDF download of this script. What follows is a brief excerpt to help provide clarity for the presentation.
Synopsis
Faith Over Fear can be performed with as few as one NARRATOR, one READER and five MONOLOGUE characters for the duration of the presentation or can be expanded to include up to five NARRATORS and five READERS (one set for each part of the presentation).
A WORSHIP TEAM, comprised of both vocalists and instrumentalists, should be assigned to present songs as your ministry sees fit.
- Monologues run approximately 3-5 minutes each.
- Parts 1-5 run approximately 12-15 minutes each.
- Part 6 concludes the service with a devotional and time of congregational response.
- The complete service as suggested in the Sample Service Order runs approximately 75-90 minutes.
Staging
Anchoring the NARRATOR, READER, WORSHIP TEAM and MONOLOGUES to specific points on your stage will help facilitate sound and lighting as well as minimize the distraction of entrances and exits.

Devotional & Response
The conclusion of Faith Over Fear naturally segues into a short devotional and time of congregational response. For your convenience, a devotional and response time have been included with this script in Part 6. This is an optional ending to the presentation.

Excerpt from Part 3
Judges
NARRATOR: God’s people followed Him for a time but struggled to remain faithful when Joshua and the elders who served with him passed away. The next generation did not know the Lord and what He had done for His people, so they were quick to worship the gods of their neighbors.
In a repeating cycle of sin, oppression, repentance and deliverance, the Lord sent Judges to rescue and rule His people. Yet time and again, Israel fell further and further away from the holy standard they had been called to and the God who set them apart.
(PPT slide with Judges 21:25 appears on screen.)
READER: (Judges 21:25) “In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”
NARRATOR: And yet in neighboring Moab, there lived a woman of faith.
(RUTH enters downstage. PPT slide with Matthew 1:5a appears on screen.)
READER: (Matthew 1:5a) “…and Salmon the father of Boaz by Rahab, and Boaz the father of Obed by Ruth…”
(PPT slide with RUTH’s name appears on screen. Focus shifts from the NARRATOR and READER to RUTH.)
Ruth
(RUTH recounts her story, as told in Ruth 1–4, after she has been married to Boaz but before she becomes the mother of Obed.)
When the whole world has been taken from you, (holds up empty hands) there is nothing left to lose. (smiling, brings hands to chest symbolizing the capacity to hold what’s coming next) In a way, all that’s left…is to gain.
It was an easy decision to follow my mother-in-law to Bethlehem. She was a good woman and even though she had grown bitter from life’s pain and heartache, deep down she still believed in her God. (beat) And I admired her for it.
Sometimes our anger and sadness reveal how important someone is…how incredibly real they are for us to feel such emotion. I think that’s where Naomi was in the months after losing our family – trying to make sense of the God she knew in Israel while walking the lonely road back from Moab.
(Monologue continues with RUTH’s story.)
