DIY Give, Live, Save Mason Jar Banks
It’s important to Mike and I that the boys understand the value of money; how to make a life with it, how to save it for the future, and how to graciously give it away. We’ve learned through the example of our parents, that it’s imperative to start them while they’re young.
We’re hoping that by teaching them to live on what they have, save for what they don’t, and give consistently while they are 5 and 3, they will become financially wise and generous adolescents and eventually adults.
I’ve heard lots of mommas talk about using give-live-save jars to model financial stewardship to their kids. To make it a little more fun for the boys I mod podged the fabric of their choice and a simple graphic to a set of mason jars. I’ll let you guess which set belongs to who.

How to make your banks
- If you don’t know how to mod podge or need a quick refresher, click on wikiHow’s article How to Mod Podge.
- Cut fabric and printables for all three jars as specified above.
- Mod podge the fabric to the jar, and the printable to the fabric.
- Following wikiHow’s instructions, I coated slightly beyond the entire area of the fabric four times, allowing for the recommended 15-20 minutes between coats.
- Let the jars dry completely for 24 hours. Do NOT touch the label when wet!
- For a little more pizzazz, we spray painted the jar lids to match the fabric color.
