I come from a long line of do-it-yourselfers – most notably my parents – who were once known to do everything themselves. The patience and care and strategy with which they approached their projects taught me something valuable about well thought out, creative, hard work. By their example I believed I could learn to do anything, and gain much joy in the process.
Sometimes doing-it-yourself is about saving money, and that’s awesome enough. But there is something absolutely thrilling about starting a project with a scrap of fabric, or an empty wall, or even a blank web page – then dreaming and designing and creating – something useful, or memorable, or beautiful, just because you can.
