The Trevino Weekend of Awesome

Mike and I were blessed with a weekend away by five very special very incredible people in our lives.  All expenses paid.  No children.  To be honest it felt a little bit like a fairy tale.  For twenty four hours we pressed the pause button on life and were given the gift of time alone together.  We stayed in our favorite part of the city, slept a solid eight hours, and were able to reconnect before the beginning of what promises to be a busy new semester.  And it was absolutely gorgeous out.  We could not have asked for a more perfect trip.

I had hoped to update via Instagram during our time away, but as hard as I tried, couldn’t get it to work on my phone.  So I’ll post my pics of what has been dubbed The Trevino Weekend of Awesome here :) .

We picked up CTA day passes on the cheap at our neighborhood Jewel before we left and were able to use any bus or train in the city for the entirety of our stay.

We were privileged to stay at the Marriott on the Magnificent Mile. Talk about a room with an incredible view!

We waited in line for a taste of the famous Sprinkles cupcakes. They’ve been on Martha Stewart and Oprah and are the first cupcake place to have created a cupcake ATM machine right outside their store. They were worth the wait.

Despite having a CTA day pass, we did do a lot of walking to help burn off some calories. On our stroll down Michigan Ave. I was reminded of our first date ever at the Cheesecake Factory below the John Hancock. We have lots of history in Chicago :) .

Love the view of Navy Pier.

We walked the entirety of the pier – talking, people watching, and enjoying the breathtaking view of the skyline.

Despite having lived near the city all of our lives we had both never been on a ride on the Ferris Wheel. So. Much. Fun. I’m so glad we rode at night.

It has been a long time since we’ve been able to see fireworks – probably since we lived in Southern Illinois. The night was cool and clear – perfect for watching fireworks on the lake.

What’s a trip into the city without some Chicago-style popcorn??

Love my Michael. So glad we had this time to share.

See I told you it was like a fairy tale :) .
