To go along with Elijah’s music inspired Birthday party I made him a Happy Birthday banner out of felt.
Easy-peasy project that was a fantastic addition to the party decor.
Here’s what you need | Total cost: $3
1/4 yd white felt ($0.75)
1/4 yd black felt ($0.75)
1/4 yd blue felt ($0.75)
1/4 yd green felt ($0.75)
3/4 inch wide white ribbon (had at home)
Large cup
Clear thread
Here’s how to make it | Total Time: Approximately 4 hours
- Cut out concentric circles in white and colored felt.
I used the top and bottom of a large cup as my pattern. I alternated between blue and green for the large circles and white for all the small circles. - Cut out letters and “spaces.”
I blew up the same font I used for Elijah’s invitations to spell “Happy 3rd Birthday Elijah” and cut the letters out of card stock for my patterns. I re-sized a musical note graphic I found online to match the size of the letter font to be my “space” pattern. All the letters and notes were cut from black felt. - Sew together circles, letters and spaces.
Using my machine, I sewed all the white circles to the colored circles and then sewed the letters and spaces in order to alternating colored circles.

- Sew circles to ribbon.
I laid out all the circles in order and pinned them to the ribbon about even with the top of the letters. I made a running stitch the entire length of the banner attaching the circles to the ribbon. For each individual circle I made a running stitch perpendicular to the first, the width of the ribbon.
- Hang and enjoy.
We used Scotch tape directly to the wall. For realz – that’s it

Girl, you need a cricut! They are so amazing, all the cuts are done for you!
Didn’t know they did felt! I will have to look at that!
I too am a crafter without a Cricut/Silhouette!
It’s always helpful for me to know how long projects take.
It looked great! Don’t forget to link up with Thrifty Decorating and TT&J!
