So we’ve made it through 40 days. That is tremendously exciting to me.
I remember sitting down to write that first post, looking at a blank food journal thinking, “What am I doing? 40 days goes through Halloween . . . I’m going to miss all the candy!” And then I thought about how inevitably after 40 days I would somehow force myself to continue with the routine and miss out on all my Thanksgiving favorites and Christmas goodies. For a second I thought about shelving the whole thing for another day . . .
I’m so glad I didn’t.
For much too long my weight and my health have been on hold for another day – no more. Weight loss and inches lost aside, in the past 40 days I’ve surprised myself by being disciplined enough to say “no” to foods I would have normally said “yes” to and in the process have reclaimed some very valuable things I had forgotten. Self-confidence. Self-Esteem. Energy. Drive. Determination. Vision. Creativity. Passion.
Hard to believe I’ve gotten that much out of watching what I eat for 40 days? I don’t know. I’ve been following Jon Acuff’s blog and reading his book Quitter - he would suggest that when you introduce discipline into one part of your life, it has a tendency to spill over into others. I would have to agree.
I’m excited today is day 40 . . . and I’m excited for what is to come. I’m not quitting now. I have more goals and more dreams to share . . . but we’ll leave those for future posts. For now I have some results to post . . .
